Interior Design Using Orange & Blue: Tips To Help You Decorate Using Complementary Colors

Feast your eyes on these three juicy orange and blue home interiors, and see the visual impact that a complementary colour scheme can bring. These designs show how to achieve a good balance with hues that sit opposite on the colour wheel – without becoming too strong a palette that could completely overwhelm a space. This collection of room ideas includes orange sofas for your living room, blue kitchen ideas, a blue bathroom, bright accent chairs, colour pop scatter cushions, modern dining sets, and colourful feature walls that would brighten up just about any part of the home. Smooth neutral decor bridges the gap between the stronger shades, whilst beautiful accent pieces add polish.

A modern sofa stands wrapped in a bold orange tone in the centre of our first complementary colour living space. The home has a total area of 72.7 square metres, and this allows for a generous open plan combo of lounge, kitchen and dining room. A solo blue scatter cushion gives the orange seating area something in common with the blue kitchen cabinets behind it.

A wall of storage cabinets are faced with orange-brown doors, which are offset by an adjacent deep navy blue tv wall.

The sprawling sputnik chandelier has white lamp shades that pop against the dark tv wall decor. A white table lamp replicates the effect on a slimline mantelshelf. A duo of bird figurines perch at the opposite end.

Orange flames flicker along a modern fireplace on a navy hearth, below the wall mounted tv.

Crazed mosaic effect vinyl flooring wraps up over the baseboard in the kitchen, meeting with solid blue base cabinets. Gold handles and a gold faucet give the kitchen a high-end look, and exude a similar visual warmth as the orange elements in the living room.

Gold dining pendant lights hang in a trio across the small kitchen island and attached dining table.

The dining chairs don’t join in with the orange and blue theme, they take a quieter stance in monochrome that gives the bolder accents room to breath.

Ribbed wallpaper textures the blue bedroom accent wall. Limited orange-brown accents are introduced as a single throw pillow on the bed and within abstract art on the wall. A bedside cube and a built in desk complement the tone.

Gold bedroom pendant lights hang in a matching pair, illuminating each side of the bed.

In a second bedroom the colour scheme is switched to hot orange. Ribbed wallpeper and orange storage cabinets create feature walls in this space. Orange pillow cases tie the grey bed in with the surrounding hue. A purple cushion and throw provides colour contrast, and a pair of unique plant stands hold on to a living spray of green.

A wood vanity mirror shines on a beige wall opposite the end of the bed, above a smart black dressing table.

Modern candles with a hint of orange dress the tabletop, balanced by a purple tinted glass vase at the other side.

A modern flush plate provides a rich block of gold on a deep blue bathroom wall.

Wood panels stripe the ceiling, and warmly coincide with the orange elements that stand down at ground level.

A built-in bookcase brings in a multitude of bright books and accessories, between a set of floor skimming beige curtains. A chic modern coffee table holds games controllers within easy reach of a grey L-shaped sofa. A large black floor lamp provides task lighting. More great floor lamps here.

The coffee table and matching media unit carry orange tones in their woodgrain. The tv wall decor forms a cool monochrome backdrop.

A window seat has been fashioned to make good use of the sunniest spot in the room.

Superhero decor adds a little humour on top of the seriously contemporary furniture.

Wood chevron flooring runs throughout.

The orange Drop chair design at the dining table works well with the geometric wood floor pattern. A chrome dining pendant reflects the orange hue.

Chrome kitchen elements bring reflections of light into the dark ensemble.

Our third and last tour uses lots of clean white space between accent colours.

White sofas, white storage cabinets and a white kitchen keep things simple.

Blue wall art adds bold interest on plain walls.

A silver feature wall shimmers behind the tv.

More silver panels shine across the dining room, cut through by strip lights.

The white dining set blends quietly with the calm white decor.

The white kitchen island is cut through with black elements.

Another black bar light illuminates the geometrically cut kitchen island.
