Located in Sunnyvale, California, this mid-century Eichler home was recently redesigned by Klopf Architecture. The owners entrusted the architect to expand and update the original family residence, while still keeping it “classic”.
Some of the transformations included opening up the kitchen, dining, and living spaces into one flowing great room, expanding the master suite, and building an extra office and powder room — all this while maintaining the mid-century modern style of the Silicon Valley home, the architects explained.
The kitchen island surrounded by colorful chairs acts as the social core of the house. It is here that the entire family can cook together, while keeping an eye on the guests at the dining table and in the lounge area. Wood accents throughout increase the feeling of warmth, while the colorful cupboards and chairs add a playful touch.
The floor-to-ceiling windows bring in an abundance of natural light from the small inner courtyard and wood framing accentuates the interesting geometric architecture of the place. The creative team at Growsgreen Design planned the green areas around the house, giving them an artistic curb appeal. [Information provided by Klopf Architecture; Photography credits: Mariko Reed]
