A Masterpiece of Modern Living and Nature Integration in Brazil

In the serene landscape of Araraquara, Brazil, a 2,885-square-foot family home stands behind a brutalist concrete exterior. Created by Caio Persighini Arquitetura, Casa Patio is a two-story fusion of contemporary living with nature. From its inception, the concept of an open patio was embedded into the very core of the project. The unique topography of the terrain, with a gentle slope, inspired the home’s multi-level design, dividing it into a second floor, a semi-basement, and a social ground floor. The house seamlessly integrates spacious living areas, a gourmet kitchen, three bedroom suites, a laundry room, and a brewery, offering a harmonious blend of functionality and aesthetics.

As you explore this dynamic residence, every corner offers a unique perspective, creating an atmosphere of comfort, tranquility, and contemplative beauty. Outside of the home, a family relaxation area is dominated by a rectangular swimming pool design, which flows underneath an elevated upper volume.

Warm timber decking frames the cool blue swimming pool, heated by glorious sunshine. The pool finds respite from the sun under the shade of the building’s composition. A small tree and bordering shrubs provide smaller puddles of shade across the terrace.

The White Ipê tree acts as a centerpiece for a small outdoor sitting area. Wood decking frames its slender trunk.

An outdoor chair and footstool furnish the decked courtyard design, which dissolves into a lawn at its borders.

The clients’ desire for an open recreational area was prevalent from the beginning of the project and became the main focus.

Muxarabi screens shroud the face of the house, providing privacy without cutting off the view.

The muxarabi screens inspire the staircase aesthetic where they translate into a full-height, wood-slatted balustrade design.

Concrete and glass dominate the architectural composition and the home interior. The wood decking and screens offer a warm counterbalance.

The swimming pool features an expansive Baja shelf that serves as an entry point and sunbathing shelf.

An L-shaped border of plants wraps the sun deck with lush greenery.

Concrete elements were cast in place, bringing fluidity to the project.

The U-shaped composition of the home, which enfolds its courtyard, creates a feeling of safety and peaceful seclusion from the world.

Huge wooden shutters close across the bedrooms, which are elevated directly above the swimming pool. When the screens are opened, the residents can sit on their bedroom floor and dangle their legs above the sparkling blue pool.

Despite an almost 180-degree panoramic view from the bed, the homeowners have privacy from the neighbors even with the drapes open, thanks to the muxarabi screens.

The slatted window screens also filter our strong sunlight, keeping the interior spaces cool and comfortable.

When the shutters are open, the bedrooms become connected with the outside recreational spaces, allowing constant communication between family members.

The main living space has fluid integration with the exterior via floor-to-ceiling glazed doors. There is also a visual link with the suspended bedroom block, the garage, and the hall. The strong link with surrounding spaces builds a feeling of comfort and closeness for the family.

Board-formed concrete walls give the living space a deeply textural appeal with an industrial essence.

Black track lights spread even illumination over the open-plan living space.

A linear, gray living room sofa pushes a fresh modernity through the raw, industrial-inspired space.

An Eames-style chair and footstool add a classic design element to the living room. A simple gray rug softens the microcement floor.

Wood-slatted panels encase the kitchen focal wall with textural interest and add rich visual warmth to the living space at large.

The dining area sits in sunlight between dual-aspect windows.

With the glass doors open, the indoor dining area becomes part of the outdoor living space.

The concrete staircase rises and falls just off the kitchen diner.

A cast concrete kitchen island stands center stage in the living space. Wooden bar stools seat five at the breakfast bar.

The oven and kitchen sink are set into the concrete dining island, making it a hub of activity.

A concrete ceiling caps the sun-filled living room with a moody canopy.

The elevated bedroom enjoys a privileged view over the property, creating an uplifting experience.

Lightweight white voiles frame the dual-aspect bedroom windows. Their black frames heavily accent the minimalist decor scheme, striking a bold contrast against the concrete ceiling and warm wooden bedroom furniture.

After the panoramic view, a wooden headboard wall provides the focal point in the bedroom. Matching wooden wardrobes lead from the bedroom into an ensuite bathroom.

The reverse side of the wood-clad headboard wall is home to a double sink bathroom vanity unit and a large mirror that reflects light from a large window.

A long bench underlines the bathroom window and provides plentiful storage for towels and toiletries.

The sloping terrain decided the multi-level construction and layout of the house, including a semi-basement, a social ground floor to receive guests, and a private second floor.

An accessible ramp approaches the house.

The entrance hall gives staircase access to the basement and first floor and filters directly into the ground floor living space.

The bedroom volume is boldly cantilevered over the driveway.

At the front of the house, the parallel living room and bedroom volumes wrap the front door with a welcoming embrace. At the rear of the house, the volumes cozily frame the courtyard.
