High in the hills above Turkey’s Bodrum Peninsula, these charming resort villas blend in with their surroundings. The Gumus Su Villas project, a collaboration between Cirakoglu Architects and Demirden Design, consists of five units on 20 acres.
“The basic idea was to define the single house unit strictly within a square, repeat it five times within the plot and then leave the rest of the site to nature itself,” the architects said. A terrace and swimming pool shaded by a bamboo canopy are the trademarks of each villa.
Traditional stone walls root the dwellings into the hillside, while wooden decks and large glass walls inspire a contemporary feel. Each house also has its own garden.
The lounge, bedrooms and bathrooms inside each villa are individual blocks connected through internal hallways. A large living area, featuring eclectic accents and linked to the deck, acts as the social core of the resort villas.
Sustainable features include thick stone walls that provide thermal insulation, bamboo shelters that further help to keep the interiors cool, and semi-open circulation areas for natural ventilation. [Photography by Cemal Emden]
