Different from every standpoint, this single level residence was completed in 2016 by Kadarik Tüür Arhitektid in Koidu Village, northern Estonia. Its original geometry derives from the shape of the plot and optimizes sunlight.
“The main building was erected on the western side of the plot while the grill house stands on the east side inside a small hill and acts as an echo of the main building.” the architects said. “Between these two volumes an inner rectangular courtyard is created with golden ratio proportions. The landscape protects the yard from the traffic noise and offers privacy.”
Painted larch wood and glass define the facades of the building. The core of the house is a living area with a ceiling height of 6 meters (almost 20 feet). The open plan social zone includes the kitchen and dining zone, with pendant lamps reducing the scale of the interior. A blue sofa and a yellow curtain set the tone for a vibrant atmosphere.
According to the official description, the project is nominated for the best wooden structure award in Estonia this year, thanks to its innovative shape, sustainable finishes and ability to capture sunlight. [Information provided by Kadarik Tüür Arhitektid; photography by Tõnu Tunnel]
