North London Victorian Gets Modern Addition

Mowbray_3

Walker Bushe Architects designed this remodel to a Victorian home in Brondesbury, North London. An adjoining site was incorporated into the design of this addition, bringing this corner plot home to 236 square meters, double its original volume.

The design between the old and the new is demarcated by a dark grey rendered panel; this also serves as the new entrance to both old and new wings of the building. The new wing, which was built on the land which previously held the home’s stables, adds a spacious open plan living room, dining room, and kitchen. A private back terrace is accessible just outside these rooms, paved in limestone.

The dining area opens with views to both the front and back gardens, while a skylight illuminates the kitchen island during the day. A Timber slatted screen was added onto the front glazing, giving the corner lot extra privacy. Throughout the home, oak flooring features underfloor heating, keeping the house cozy and comfortable even with the additional volume, while a wood burning fireplace adds atmosphere and comfort.

The back garden features a workshop and studio space, complete with green sedum roof covering.
